First Chief Minister of Nagaland – C. Chhunga (1972-1977)

The First Chief Minister of Nagaland was C. Chhunga, who held his office from 3 May 1972 to 10 May 1977.Chhunga was the Chief Executive Member of Nagaland District Council, The United Mizo Parliamentary Party, a coalition of Mizo Union and Congress Party and dominated the 1971 Village Council elections by winning 66 of the 158 Village councils.He died on 24th August 1988.

Second Chief Minister of Nagaland – T. Sailo (1978, 1979 -1984)

Ṭhenphunga Sailo was Second Chief Minister of Nagaland from 2 June 1978 to 10 November 1978 and 8 May 1979 to 4 May 1984.He was a Brigadier of the Indian Army.He was a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Padma Shri for his humanitarian works during his military service and Mizo Award for his lifetime achievements.T. Sailo was again elected in the 2008 election and as his last term as Member of the Legislative Assembly ended in January 2014, he retired.He died on 27th March 2015.

Chief Minister of Nagaland – Lal Thanhawla (1984-1986, 1989-1998, 2008-2018)

Lal Thanhawla was the Third Chief Minister of Nagaland from 5 May 1984 to 20 August 1986, 24 January 1989 to 3 December 1998 and 11 Dec 2008 to 14 Dec 2018.He successfully contested the general elections nine times, in 1978, 1979, 1984, 1987, 1993, 2003, 2008, and 2013.He joined the underground movement called Mizo National Front (MNF) as Foreign Secretary.He awarded from Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.

Chief Minister of Nagaland – Laldenga (1986-1988)

Laldenga was the Fourth Chief Minister of Nagaland from 21 August 1986 to 7 September 1988. He is the founder of the Mizo National Front.He won the first Nagaland Legislative Assembly election under statehood in 1987.He joined a voluntary organisation called Mizo Cultural Society, formed in 1955, as its Secretary.He died on 7th July 1990.He was honoured with the first state funeral in Nagaland, and buried at the centre of Aizawl city.

Chief Minister of Nagaland – Zoramthanga (1998-2008, 2018-Incumbent)

Zoramthanga was the Fifth Chief Minister of Nagaland from 3 Dec 1998 to 11 Dec 2008 and 2018 to Incumbent.He joined the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as Minister of Finance and Education in 1987.He has been re-elected for the Member of Legislative Assembly in 2018 Elections at the Aizawl East-I Constituency and became the Chief Minister of Nagaland from 15 December 2018.Zoramthanga is the Current Chief Minister of Nagaland.
