 1.Find the missing term in the following number series.

12, 30, 120, 460, _, 2730

A. 1367

B. 1465

C. 1368

D. 1401

Show Correct Answers

 C. 1368

12 × 6 – 6 × 7 = 30;

30 × 5 – 5 × 6 = 120;

120 × 4 – 4 × 5 = 460;

460 × 3 – 3 × 4 = 1368;

1368 × 2 – 2 × 3 = 2730;

Hence 1368 is the missing number.

2. A number between 1000 and 2000 which when divided by 30, 36 & 80 gives a remainder 11 in each case is

A. 1451

B. 1641

C. 1712

D. 1523

Show Correct Answers

A. 1451

Let the number be X. We have

X = 30 × 1 + 11

⇒ X – 11 = 30 × 1

X = 36 × 2 + 11

⇒ X – 11 = 36 × 2

X = 80 × 3 + 11

⇒ X – 11 = 80 × 3

LCM of 30, 36 and 80 = 720

Multiples of 720 between 1000 and 2000 is 1440.

Hence, the number = 1440 + 11 = 1451

3.Find the missing (?) in the series

13, 14, 18, 27, ?, 68, 104 ……..

A. 36

B. 41

C. 43

D. 54

Show Correct Answers

C. 43

The given series is,

13 (+ 1) 14 (+ 4) 18 (+ 9) 27 (+ 16) 43 (+ 25) 68….

Above series is made by adding the squares of numbers from 1, 2, 3, 4 …….

Hence 43 is the missing number.

4.If x + y = 12 and x2 + y2 = 94, then xy is

A. 25

B. 50

C. 144

D. 238

Show Correct Answers

 A. 25

(x + y)2 = 122

x+ y2 + 2xy = 144

94 + 2xy = 144

⇒ xy = (144 – 94)/2 = 25

5.One number is 25% of another number. The larger number is 12 more than the smaller. The larger number is

A. 48

B. 16

C. 4

D. 12

Show Correct Answers

 B. 16

Let the Larger number be x.

⇒ Smaller number will be x/4

Also, Larger number is 12 more than the smaller.

⇒ x = 12 + x/4

⇒ 4x = 48 + x

⇒ 3x = 48

⇒ x = 16

∴ Larger number is 16

6.The average weight of Somdev, Gurdeep and Ritu is 85 kg. If the average weight of Somdev and Gurdeep be 79 kg and that of Gurdeep and Ritu be 73 kg, then the weight of Gurdeep is

A. 78

B. 49

C. 72

D. 90

Show Correct Answers

 B. 49

Average weight = 85 kg

Total weight = 85 × 3 = 255 kg

Let weight of Gurdeep be x kg

⇒ Total weight of Somdep and Gurdeep = 79 × 2 = 158 kg

⇒ Total weight of Gurdeep and Ritu = 73 × 2 = 146 kg

Weight of Gurdeep = 158 + 146 – 255 = 49 kg

7.After deducting 60% from a certain number and then deducting 15% from the remainder, 1428 is left. What was the initial number?

A. 4200

B. 3962

C. 4150

D. 4300

Show Correct Answers

A. 4200

Let the number be y

After deducting 60% from certain number

⇒ y(1 – 60/100) = 0.4y

After deducting 15% from remainder

⇒ 0.4y(1 – 15/100) = 1428

⇒ 0.4 × y × 0.85 = 1428

∴ y = 4200

8.Two super – fast trains P and Q start from stations A and B towards B and A respectively. After passing each other, they take 4 h 48 min and 3 h 20 min to reach B and A respectively. If the train P is moving at 45 km/h, then find the speed of train Q

A. 56 km/h

B. 64.8 km/h

C. 37.5 km/h

D. 54 km/h

Show Correct Answers

D. 54 km/h

Let the distance covered by Train P and Train Q while passing each other be x km and y km and time taken be t. Let the speed of train Q be ‘z’ and speed of train P = 45km/hr

Now, x = 45 × t and y = z × t Distance = Speed × Time

So, xz = 45y

Also, time taken to cover y km by train P is 4hour 48 min i.e. 24/5 hour

So, distance y = 45 × 24/5 = 216 km

Also, x = z × 10/3

So, 10z2/3 = 216 × 45

Hence, z = 54 km/h.

So, the speed of train Q is 54 km/h.

9. A lion is 100 m of its own leaps behind a hyena, the lion takes 30 leaps per minutes to the hyena’s 20 leaps per minute. If the lion and hyena cover 5 m and 3 m per leap, then what distance will the lion have to run before it takes hyena?

A. 1345 m

B. 1248 m

C. 1090 m

D. 1653 m

Show Correct Answers

B. 1248 m

As per the given data, we get

⇒ Speed of the lion = 30 × 5 = 150 m/min

⇒ Speed of the hyena = 20 × 3 = 60 m/min

∴ Differences in distances = 100 × 5 = 500 m

⇒ Time taken by lion in catching the hyena = 500/60 = 8.32 min

⇒ Distance made by the lion to run before it takes hyena = 8.32 × 150 = 1248 m

10.If A/3 = B/2 = C/5, then what is the value of ratio (C + A)2 : (A + B)2 : (B + C)2?

A. 9 : 4 : 25

B. 25 : 4 : 9

C. 64 : 25 : 49

D. 49 : 25 : 64

Show Correct Answers

C. 64 : 25 : 49

Given: A/3 = B/2 = C/5

⇒ B = 2A/3

⇒ C = 5A/3

To find: ratio (C + A)2 : (A + B)2 : (B + C)2

⇒ (5A/3 + A)2 : (A + 2A/3)2 : (2A/3 + 5A/3)2

⇒ (8A/3)2 : (5A/3)2 : (7A/3)2

⇒ (8A)2 : (5A)2 : (7A)2

∴ 64 : 25 : 49
