1. In container A the ratio of milk and water is 4:1 and in container B the ratio of milk and water is 5:1. If 60 liters of mixture taken out from container B and mixed into container A, then the quantity of milk in container A becomes equal to milk in container B, and if 20 liters of mixture taken out from container A and mixed into container B, then the quantity of water in A becomes equal to quantity of water in container in B. Find the quantity of mixture contains in container A initially.

Explanation: Let milk in container A be 4x and water x liters respectively.
And milk in container B be 5y and water y liters.
ATQ,

4x+50=5y-50, = 4x-5y=-100……1)
ATQ,
x – 4 = y + 4
x – y = 8……(2)
eq (2) x 5-veq. (1)
x=140
Initial quantity in container A = 5x = 700 liters
