List of Winners of National Sports Awards 2018
The National Sports Awards 2018 were announced by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on 20th September 2018. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award- India’s highest sports honour.
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna 2018
- The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna is the highest sporting honour of India.
- The award is named after Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India who served the office from 1984 to 1989.
- The award comprises a medallion, a citation, and a cash prize of Rupees 7.5 lakh.
- The recipient(s) is/are selected by a committee constituted by the Ministry and is honoured for their “spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports over a period of four years” at international level

Dronacharya Awards 2018
- The Dronacharya Award honours the sports coaches of India.
- Recipients are selected by a committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and are honoured to have done “outstanding and meritorious work on a consistent basis and enabled sportspersons to excel in international events” over a period of four years.
- The award comprises a bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of Rupees 5 lakh.
- The award is named after Drona, often referred as “Dronacharya” or “Guru Drona”, a character from the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata of ancient India.

Arjuna Awards 2018
- The Arjuna Awards are given by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to recognize outstanding achievement in National sports.
- Instituted in 1961, the award carries a cash prize of Rupees 5 lakh, a bronze statue of Arjuna and a scroll.

Dhyan Chand Award 2018
- The Dhyan Chand Award is the lifetime achievement sporting honour of India
- The award is named after Dhyan Chand, an Indian field hockey player
- Recipients are selected by a committee constituted by the Ministry and are honoured for their contributions to sports both during their active sporting career and after retirement.
- The award comprises a statuette, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of Rupees 5 lakh.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2017-18
- The Guru Nanak Dev University of Amritsar was chosen as the recipient of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2017-18.
- The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) is awarded to the overall top performing university in inter-university tournaments.
- The overall top performing university is awarded with the MAKA Trophy, award money of Rs 10 lakh and a certificate
National Sports Awards 2018 – Important Updates
This year, the Ministry received a large number of nominations for these awards. The nominations were considered by the Selection Committees consisting of a former Olympian, Arjuna Awardees, Dronacharya Awardees, Dhyan Chand Awardees, Sport Journalists, Experts and sports administrators.
- The Selection Committee for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and Arjuna Awards was headed by Justice Indermeet Kaur Kochhar (Former Judge of High Court of Delhi High Court).
- The Selection Committee for Dronacharya Awards and Dhyan Chand Awards was headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal (Former Chief Justice of High Court of Punjab and Haryana).
- The Selection Committee for Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar was headed by Rahul Bhatnagar, Secretary (Sports).
- The Selection Committee for MAKA Trophy was headed by Ashok Kumar, former Olympian.
