Important Time and Work Questions: Set-3

1.A, B and C together can do a work in 3 days. If A or B alone can do the work in 8 days, then how long will take C along to do the same work?

  1. 7 days
  2. 6 days
  3. 12 days
  4.  18 days

Show Correct Answers

C. 12 Days

Time taken  to complete  the work when  they all three work together  = ABC / (AB) + (BC) +(CA)

Or, 3  =  8*8*C   / (8*8) + (8*C) (C*8)  =   64C  / 64 + 16C

192 + 48 C =  64C

C = 192/ 16  = 12

2.Abdul can finish a piece of work in 12 days while Bilal can do it in 15 days. If both together, what time will they take to do the work?

  1. 6 days
  2. 8 days
  3. 6 2/3 days
  4. D. 10 1/5  days

Show Correct Answers

C. 6 2/3 Days

Efficiency of Abdul= 100/12=8.33%

Efficiency of Bilal  =  100/15= 6.66%

Combined efficiency of Abdul and Bilal=8.33+6.66=15%

Number of days taken by Abdul and Bilal, when worked together

=100/15= 6 10/15= 6 2/3days

3.Rashi can do a piece of work in 5 days,Rakhi can do it in 10 days. With the help of Shivani, they finish the work in 2 days. In how many days Shivani alone can do the whole work?

    1. 3
    2. 4
    3. 5
    4. D. 6

Show Correct Answers

C.  5 Days

Efficiency of Rashi = 20%= (100/5)

Efficiency of Rakhi = 10%= (100/10)

Efficiency of Rashi,Rakhi and Shivani= 50%=(100/2)

Efficiency of Shivani= (Efficiency of Rashi,Rakhi and Shivani)- (Efficiency of Rashi and Rakhi)

=(50)- (20+10)=20%

Number of days required by Shivani to work alone= 100/20= 5 days

4. Ajay can do a piece of work in 24 days. If Ajit is 60% more efficient than Ajay, then the numbers of days required by Ajit to do the same work is ?

  1. 10
  2. 15
  3. 12
  4.  9.6

Show Correct Answers

B. 15 Days

Efficiency of A= 4.16%

Efficiency of B= 1.6* 4.166.66%

Number of days required by B= 100/6.66= 15days

5. Manav is twice as good a workman as Manas and together they finish a piece of work in 14 days. In how many days can Manav alone finish the work?

  1. 18
  2. 20
  3. 21
  4. 24

Show Correct Answers

C. 21 Days

Efficiency of Manav+ Manas= 100/14=7.14%

Again the ratio of efficiency of Manav and Manas=2:1

Efficiency of Manav= 2/3*7.14= 4.76%

Required number of days by Manav= 100/4.76=21days

6.Amitis thrice as good a workman as Bhawna and takes 10 days less to do a piece or work than Bhawna takes. The numbers of days taken by Bhawna to finish the work is:

  1. 9
  2. 18
  3. 15
  4.  12

Show Correct Answers

C. 15 Days

Amit                                                    Bhawna

Efficiency          3                                :                       1

Days                     1                             :                       3

(Since number of days are inversely proportional to the efficiency)

Now if Amit requires x days, SoBhawna requires 3x days

Difference of required days= (3x-x)=2x=10 => x=5

Hence the number of days required by Bhawna=3x= 3*5=15 days

7.Anirudhis thrice efficient as Bijendra and Chirayu is twice as efficient as Bijendra. What is the ratio of numbers of days taken by Anirudh, Bijendra and Chirayu, when they work individually?

  1. 2:6:3
  2. 2:3:6
  3. 1:2:3
  4. 3:1:2

Show Correct Answers

A. 2:6:3

Anirudh      :      Bijendra       :         Chirayu

Ratio of efficiency       3               :            1            :          2

Ratio of number of Days     {1/3        :           1/1               :½}

OR                               2                 :    6                 :           3

8.If Abhijeet takes 4/5 days as Bimal takes and working together they require 20/3 days to compete the whole work. What is efficiency of Bimal?

  1. 6 2/3%
  2. 16 %
  3. 45.55 %
  4. 8 1/3 %

Show Correct Answers

A. 6 2/3 %

Efficiency of Abhijeet+ Bimal= 100/20/3=15%

AbhijeetBimal

No. of days                    4                    :             5

Efficiency                                      5                :             4

Efficiency of Bimal = 4/9*15=20/3=6 2/3%

9.Nisha is thrice as efficient as Madhuri. Working together they complete the work in 3 days. If Madhuri takes 8 more than Nisha, what is the numbers of days taken by Nisha to finish the whole work, alone?

  1. 4
  2. 2
  3. 12
  4.   15

Show Correct Answers

A. 4 Days

Efficiency of Nisha+ Madhuri= 33.33%= (100/3)

Ratio of efficiency of Nisha and madhuri= 3:1

Efficiency of nisha= ¾*33.33=25%

Number of days taken by Nisha=(100/25)=4days

10.Ram and laxman can do a piece of work in 8 days, Laxman and Bharat can do the same work in 12 days and Ram and Bharat complete it in 8 days. In how many days Ram, Laxman and Bharat can complete the whole work, working together?

  1. 4
  2. 6
  3. 12
  4.  9

Show Correct Answers

B. 6

Efficiency of (Ram+ Laxman)= 12.5%

Efficiency of (Laxman+ Bharat)= 8.33%

Efficiency of (Bharat+Ram)= 12.5%

Efficiency of [(Ram+Laxman) + (Laxman+Bharat) + (Bharat+Ram)]=33.33%

Efficiency of (Ram+Laxman+Bharat)=16.66%

Number of days required by A,B and C together= 6days=  (100/16.66)
