If A works for ‘x’ days after B and C left the work and the remaining work is completed by B alone after A has worked for x days, then find the value of ‘x’. The total work is completed in 9.4 days.

A 2.25 days
B 2.2 days
C 2 days
D 2.4 days
E None of these
Show Correct Answers

D. 2.4 days

Let the total work be LCM of (12, 15 and 20) = 60 units

Number of units of work completed by A in one day = 5 units

Number of units of work completed by B in one day = 4 units

Number of units of work completed by C in one day = 3 units

Number of units of work completed by A, B and C together in one day = (5 + 4 + 3) = 12 units

According to question,

12 × 2.5 + 5x + 4(9.4 – 2.5 – x) = 60

=> 30 + 5x + 4(6.9 – x) = 60

=> 30 + 5x + 27.6 – 4x = 60

=> x = 60 – 57.6

=> x = 2.4 days

2.A train crosses a bridge of length ‘x’ metres at the speed of 72 km/hr in 72.5 seconds. If the train crosses a man standing on the platform at the same speed in 32 seconds, then find the value of ‘x’.

A 980 metres
B 850 metres
C 810 metres
D 740 metres
E None of these
Show Correct Answers

C. 810 metres

Speed of train = 72 km/hr = 20 m/s

Length of the train = 20 × 32 = 640 metres

According to question,

(640 + x) = 20 × 72.5

640 + x = 1450

x = 810 metres
