1.A, B and C can do a work individually in 12 days, 15 days and 20 days respectively. A, B and C together started the work and worked for 2.5 days and then B and C left the work. If A works for ‘x’ days after B and C left the work and the remaining work is completed by B alone after A has worked for x days, then find the value of ‘x’. The total work is completed in 9.4 days.
2.A train crosses a bridge of length ‘x’ metres at the speed of 72 km/hr in 72.5 seconds. If the train crosses a man standing on the platform at the same speed in 32 seconds, then find the value of ‘x’.
3.There are two pipes, pipe P which fills the cistern and Q which empties the cistern. P and Q together can fill a cistern in ‘x’ minutes. If inlet pipe P can fill the cistern alone in (x – 40) minutes and outlet pipe Q can empty the cistern alone in (x – 30) minutes, then find the time taken by P and Q together to fill the cistern.
4.The cost price of ‘x’ litres of oil is Rs. 16/litre. If 2 litres of freely available water is mixed to the oil and the whole mixture is sold at the price of Rs. 15.2/litre such that there is no loss or profit, then find the value of ‘x’.
5.A man deposited Rs. 24500 in scheme A at ‘x’% simple interest per annum for ‘x’ years. The simple interest earned from the scheme A is Rs. 6125. If Rs. 18000 is deposited in another scheme B which gives compound interest at the rate of 2x%, then find the compound interest earned from scheme B after 3 years.
6.Bag A contains 2 red balls, 3 green balls and ‘x’ white balls. The probability of drawing a red ball from the bag is 0.2. If another bag B contains (x + 2) white balls, 3 red balls and (x – 2) green balls and a man randomly selects 3 balls from bag B, then find the probability that he selects one ball of each color.
7.The population of a village consisting of males and females is ‘x’. If the female population in the village is 45% and the difference between the male population and female population is 440, then find the value of ‘x’.
8.Container A contains ‘x’ litres of mixture of milk and water in the ratio of 3:1 respectively. The quantity of water in container A is 6 litres. If another container B contains (75% of x) litres of mixture of milk and water such that the ratio of milk and water is 7:2 respectively, then find the quantity of milk in container B.
9.The monthly expenditures of A and B are Rs. ‘x’ and Rs. ‘y’ respectively and the monthly savings of A and B are one – third of their respective monthly expenditures. If the monthly incomes of A and B are Rs. 80000 and Rs. 120000 respectively, then what is the difference between the monthly savings of A and B?
10.The volume of a cylinder is 6160 cm3. If the height of the cylinder is 5/7 of its radius, what is the sum of the radius and height of the cylinder?
