Find the principal amount invested in each case, if difference between the simple interest and the compound interest earned on the principal amount is Rs. 744.

A Rs. 25000
B Rs. 24000
C Rs. 22000
D Rs. 26000

B. Rs. 24000

2.A solution X containing 40 ml of acid and 68 ml of water is completely mixed with some quantity of solution Y, composed of acid and water, which has a 60% concentration of acid. If the proportion of acid and water in the final mixture is equal, then find the quantity of solution Y mixed with solution X.

A 160 ml
B 150 ml
C 130 ml
D 120 ml
E None of these
Show Correct Answers

E. None of these

Let, the quantity of solution Y be ‘x’ ml.

Amount of acid in final mixture = (40 + 0.6x) ml

Amount of water in final mixture = (68 + 0.4x) ml

Since, the proportion of acid and water in the final mixture is equal.

So, 40 + 0.6x =68 + 0.4x

0.2x = 28, x = 140 ml

So, the quantity of solution Y mixed to the solution X = 140 ml

3.The number of students in DAV school in the academic year 2016 is 2400. If the number of boys in the academic year 2017 increases by 15% and the number of girls in the academic year 2017 increases by 10%, then find the number of boys in the academic year 2017, if the total number of students in 2017 is 2690.

A 1260
B 1150
C 1100
D 1480
E 1400
Show Correct Answers

B. 1150

4.Two shopkeepers sell a watch at the same selling price. One of them sells it at 25% profit and the other sells it at 20% loss. If difference between the cost prices of the two watches is Rs. 1080, then what is the selling price of a watch?

A Rs. 2500
B Rs. 2400
C Rs. 2300
D Rs. 2600
E None of these
Show Correct Answers

B. Rs. 2400

Let, the cost price of the watch at 25% profit be Rs. x

Then, selling price of the watch at 25% profit = Rs. 1.25x

Let, the cost price of the watch at 20% loss be Rs. y

Then, the selling price of watch at 20% loss = Rs. 0.8y

Since, selling price of both watches is same.

So, 1.25x = 0.8y —– (1)

Also, y – x = 1080

y = 1080 + x

Putting the value of y in eq. (1),

1.25x = 0.8 (1080 + x)

1.25x = 864 + 0.8x

0.45x = 864, x = Rs. 1920

So, the selling price of watch = 1.25x = 1.25 × 1920= Rs. 2400

5.The average number of female employees working in 6 companies is 198. If the total number of employees working in these 6 companies is 3252, then find the average number of male employees working in each of these 6 companies.

A 338
B 352
C 344
D 340
E None of these
Show Correct Answers

C. 344

Average number of female employees in each company = 198

Average number of employees in each company = 3252 ÷ 6 = 542

So, average number of male employees in each company = 542 – 198 = 344

6.Vessel A and B contain 300 litres and 500 litres of mixtures of milk and water in the ratio of 3:2 and 7:3, respectively. ‘x’% of the total quantity is drawn from each vessel and the overall quantity of milk drawn is found to be 212 litres. Find the value of ‘x’.

A 20%
B 40%
C 25%
D 75%
E 60%

B. 40%

7.The sum of the time taken by a boat to travel 600 km upstream and 600 km downstream is 27 hours. If the speed of the boat is 9 times the speed of the stream, then what is the speed of the boat?

A 18 km/hr
B 63 km/hr
C 45 km/hr
D 90 km/hr
E None of the above
Show Correct Answers

C. 45 km/hr

8.There are 20 tissues in a packet which include white, red and pink tissues. The number of white, red and pink tissues is (x + 1), (x – 1) and (x + 5), respectively. If 4 tissues are randomly selected from the packet, what is the probability of selecting at least 2 white tissues and at least 1 red tissue?

A 6/17
B 7/33
C 12/49
D 61/237
E 154/969
Show Correct Answers

E. 154/969

9.Train A running at a speed of 72 km/hr without any halt can cover the distance between source and destination in 5 hours 15 minutes. If another train B running at a constant speed which is 75% of the speed of train A covers the same distance with ‘x’ halts in 7 hours 40 minutes and the average time taken per stop by train B is 5 minutes, then find the value of ‘x’.

A 10
B 6
C 5
D 8
E None of these
Show Correct Answers

D. 8

Speed of train A = 72 km/hr

Distance covered by train A = 72 × 5.25 = 378 km

Speed of train B = 0.75 × 72 = 54 km/hr

Time taken by the train B to cover 378 km with constant speed = 378 ÷ 54 = 7 hours

But time taken by the train B with halts = 7 hours 40 minutes

Total time taken by the train B in all the ‘x’ halts = 40 minutes

Number of halts, x = 40 ÷ 5 = 8

10.Two circular stages of radius 5 m each are to be constructed inside a park of length 60 m and breadth 25 m respectively. What would be the area of the region inside the park excluding the stages? (Consider π = 3.14)

A 1343 m2
B 1620.5 m2
C 1120 m2
D 1512.4 m2
E 1254.8 m2
Show Correct Answers

A. 1343 m2

Area of the park = l × b = 60 × 25 = 1500 m2

Area of a stage = π × r= 3.14 × 52 = 78.5 m2

Required area = 1500 – 2 × 78.5 = 1343 m2
