FM Nirmala Sitharaman announced ₹4000 crore fund for Promotion of Herbal Cultivation scheme
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed that a corridor of medicinal plants would be created on the banks of the Ganga and for this National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) would identify 800 hectare of land near the river.
- The plan is part of a Rs 4,000 crore programme launched for the promotion of herbal cultivation.
- It forms an important part of a slew of initiatives announced by the minister towards development of agricultural infrastructure, capacity building, logistics and legislative reforms.
- The NMPB has supported 2.25 lakh hectare area under cultivation of medicinal plants.

Now, 10,00,000 hectares will be covered under herbal cultivation in next two years with the outlay of Rs 4,000 crore.
- The move is expected to lead to Rs 5,000 crore income generation for farmers. It will also develop a network of regional Mandis for medicinal plants
Rs 500 cr for beekeeping initiatives, will help 2 lakh beekeepers
- The government will implement a Rs 500 crore scheme of infrastructure development for the country’s beekeepers, with special thrust on capacity building of women, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
- The government will implement the scheme for infrastructure development related to integrated beekeeping development centres, collection marketing and storage centres, post-harvest and value addition facilities among other things.
- It will also include implementation of standards, developing a traceability system, development of quality nucleus stock and bee breeders.
- This will lead to an increase in income of 2 lakh bee-keepers.
