Muntra, country’s first unmanned tank develop by DRDO

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an unmanned, remotely operated tank which has three variants – surveillance, mine detection and reconnaissance in areas with nuclear and bio threats. It is called Muntra. Though developed and tested for the Army by Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) in Avadi, paramilitary has expressed interest to use them at Naxal-hit areas.

More about the variants of the unmanned tank ‘Muntra’-

Muntra S – This variant has been developed to carry out unmanned surveillance missions.

Munta M – This variant has been developed for detecting mines.

Muntra N – This variant will be deployed in areas where nuclear radiation or the risk of bio weapons is high

NPCI gets RBI nod to operate Bharat Bill Payment System

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the umbrella organization for all retail payment systems in the country, has received the final nod from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to function as the Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit and operate the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).

Payments through BBPS may be made using cash, transfer cheques and electronic modes. Bill aggregators and banks, who will function as operating units, will carry out these transactions for the customers.

Bengaluru Ranks 40 Among Top 50 Cities For Women Entrepreneurs

Bengaluru may be India’s Silicon Valley but ranks at the 40th spot among the top 50 global cities that foster high-potential women entrepreneurs, according to a report by tech giant Dell. The only other Indian city in the top 50 tally is Delhi, that at the 49th spot, just ahead of Jakarta. New York ranked numero uno in the list, followed by Bay Area, London, Boston and Stockholm.

Dell, as part of its annual Women Entrepreneur (WE) Cities Index, ranks cities in terms of its ability to attract and foster growth of women-owned firms.

India’s Foreign Exchange Reserves touch record high of USD 391.33 bn

India’s foreign exchange reserves touched a new record high of USD 391.33 billion after it rose by USD 2.27 billion in the week to July 21, aided by increase in foreign currency assets (FCAs), RBI data showed. In the previous week, the reserves had risen by USD 2.68 billion to USD 389.06 billion

Govt. collected more than Rs. 2.35 lakh crore as cesses in 2016-17

The government collected a total Rs 2,35,307.75 crore last fiscal by way of a host of cesses, including those of education, Swachh Bharat, Krishi Kalyan and other surcharges in 2016-17 under direct tax was Rs 46,939.17 crore.

Punjab govt launches health scheme ‘Care Companion Programme’

Punjab health minister Brahm Mohindra launched a flagship health scheme which is targeted at improving patient outcomes through better family engagement and education. Mohindra said the state department of health and family welfare has entered into an MoU with Noora Health India Trust, a healthcare non-profit organisation, for implementation of the ‘Care Companion Programme’ (CCP).

The aim is to reduce the number of infant deaths and complications like infections in the first 30 days post- discharge and ensure adoption of long-term health pro-motive behaviours.

Niti Aayog clears six proposals for high-tech public transport

Mass rapid transportation technologies such as hyperloop, metrino and pod taxis could soon be a reality in India after Niti Aayog cleared half-a-dozen proposals of the transport ministry exploring options to improve public transport.

J&K approves establishment of  creation of Law Commission

The Jammu and Kashmir government approved the establishment of the maiden Law Commission in the state. The approval for establishing the commission was granted at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here.

The Law Commission will identify laws which have become obsolete over a period of time and need to be repealed, amended or updated, a statement said. The Law Commission would also consider and convey to the state government its views on any subject relating to law and judicial administration that may be specifically referred to it by the government.

RBI sets up Supervisory Colleges for six Scheduled Commercial Banks

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has informed that Supervisory Colleges have been setup for the following six Scheduled Commercial Banks which have sizeable international presence:- State Bank of India, ICICI Bank Ltd., Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank Ltd. and Punjab National Bank.

The objectives of the colleges are to enhance information exchange and cooperation among supervisors, to improve understanding of the risk profile of the banking group and thereby facilitate more effective supervision of internationally active banks.

Dr. Harshvardhan launches “Sagar Vani” 

The ‘Sagar Vani’ is a software platform where various dissemination modes will be integrated on a single central server. The ‘Sagar Vani’ includes Multi Lingual SMS, Voice Call / Audio Advisory, Mobile Apps (User / Admin modules), Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), Email, GTS, Fax, Digital Display Boards, Radio / Television broadcast units, IVRS, Cloud Channels, etc. The system also has facility to provide access to various stakeholders (NGOs, State Fishery Departments, Disaster Management Authorities, etc.) so that they too will be able to further disseminate these ocean information and alerts to the user community.

IOB goes live with Bharat Bill Payment system

Public sector Indian Overseas Bank BSE 0.00 % has offered Bharat Bill Payment System, introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India, for its customers. BBPS is an integrated bill payment system that offers inter-operable online bill payments to customers.

The services include online payments of electricity, telecommunication, DTH, water and gas bills, the Chennai headquartered bank said in a statement.Indian Overseas Bank is one of the three public sector banks (apart from Bank of Baroda and Union Bank of India) to get the approval from RBI for providing the service.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi declared as interim Pakistan Prime Minister

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has selected Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to be the interim prime minister of the country. Abbasi would serve as the chief executive of Pakistan for 45 days. In the meantime, Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif would contest elections to make his way into the country’s National Assembly.

Japan’s top honour for Ashwani

The Japanese government has selected former Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar for the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, in recognition of his achievements in bolstering India-Japan ties.

Indians who have in the past received the Decoration — conferred in recognition of distinguished accomplishments— include industrialist Ratan N. Tata.

Jhulan Goswami felicitated by Mohun Bagan Special Award 2017

City football giant Mohun Bagan will felicitate fast bowler Jhulan Goswami at its annual awards tomorrow, after India finished runner-up at the ICC Women’s World Cup in England. coach Subrata Bhattacharya will be honoured with the Mohun Bagan Ratna, a release stated.
