India’s crude steel output slips 65% to 3.13 MT in April 2020 – World Steel report
- India’s crude steel output declined over 65 per cent to 3.13 million tonnes (MT) during April, according to the World Steel Association.
- The government imposed a nationwide lockdown on March 25 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic which has impacted production, demand and supply of steel in India.
- The country had produced 9.02 MT of crude steel during the same month a year ago, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) said in a report.

- The Research Centre Imarat (RCI), DRDO has successfully developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Attendance Application (AINA), which allows non-contact based personnel verification using facial features of a person captured with the help of a low cost camera.

- A US Navy warship has successfully tested a new high-energy laser weapon that can destroy aircraft mid-flight, the Navy’s Pacific Fleet has announced.
- Images and videos provided by the Navy show the amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland executing “the first system-level implementation of a high-energy class solid-state laser” to disable an aerial drone aircraft, the Navy said in a statement.

- Former India hockey legend and the captain of the Indian national side, Balbir Singh Sr passed away on Monday after multiple health complications.
