Harsh Vardhan Releases Annual TB Report 2020, 14% Growth in Tuberculosis Burden in 2019
- Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare released the annual TB Report 2020, in the presence of Shri Ashiwni Kumar Choubey, MOS (HFW), through a virtual event. They also released a Joint Monitoring Mission (JMM) report, a manual on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to TB patients under NIKSHAY system, a Training Module, and the quarterly newsletter NIKSHAY Patrika.
- With more than 2.4 million notified cases in 2019, India’s tuberculosis (TB) burden increased 14% from the previous year, the annual TB report released by the Union health ministry said.

Jitendra Singh Inaugurates Devika and Puneja Bridges in J&K
- The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that despite challenges posed by Covid19 this year, the Government is committed to complete every project across the country and the pace of development won’t stop at any cost. - In an effort to address the current skills gap in the country, IBM has unveiled ‘SkillsBuild Reignite’ to provide job seekers and entrepreneurs with access to free online coursework and mentoring support, designed to help them reinvent their careers and businesses.
- In November 2019, IBM India, in partnership with Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, and its implementation partners, made the SkillsBuild online learning platform available to Indian students. Digital classrooms on this platform are being made available from the Industrial Training Institutes, ITI and technical education ecosystem in India.

Russia-India-China Trilateral Virtual Conference Hosted by Moscow, Russia
- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will join his Chinese and Russian counterparts at a virtual conference of the Russia-India-China trilateral on Tuesday, against the backdrop of New Delhi’s frayed ties with Beijing over the Galwan Valley clashes.

Union Cabinet Meeting Approvals – Key Highlights
- Govt banks, including 1482 urban cooperative banks & 58 multi-state cooperative banks, are now being brought under supervisory powers of Reserve Bank of India(RBI); RBI’s powers as they apply to scheduled banks will apply for cooperative banks as well.
- The decision to bring 1,540 cooperative banks under RBI’s supervision will give an assurance to more than 8.6 crore depositors in these banks that their money amounting to Rs 4.84 lakh crore will stay safe: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Pakistan to Remain on Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) Grey List
- Pakistan is likely to remain on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for failing to comply with the global terrorist financing watchdog’s deadline to prosecute and penalise terrorist financing in the country.

Indian Economy will Shrink by 4.5% in 2020, Global Economy Expects GDP to Shrink 4.9%
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected a deeper 4.5% contraction for India in FY21 than earlier estimated, citing a longer lockdown period and slower than anticipated recovery.
- In the June update – A Crisis Like No Other, An Uncertain Recovery – of its flagship World Economic Outlook (WEO), the IMF has forecast a –4.9% global growth in 2020, 1.9 percentage points below the April 2020 estimate.

- Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday launched the ”eBloodServices” mobile app developed by the Indian Red Cross Society (ICRS).

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport becomes 1st in India with this New Tech at both Ends of Runway
- Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport gets Aviation Weather Monitoring System! For the first time in India, an Aviation Weather Monitoring System has been installed at the Bangalore airport at both ends of the runway. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport) at its new runway has recently installed an indigenously-developed Aviation Weather Monitoring System (AWMS). According to a statement released by BIAL, it is the first airport in India to have this technology installed at both ends of the runway.
- The Aviation Weather Monitoring System has been developed by Bengaluru-based CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL). Apart from this, Bengaluru airport has also installed four Drishti Transmissometers which is expected to help in measuring the Runway Visibility Range (RVR). India to be World’s First Country Develops Vehicle-Mounted ULV Sprayer For Locust Control
- The government on Tuesday said the country had developed an indigenous vehicle-mounted ultra-low volume (ULV) sprayer for locust control, and approvals for its commercial launch are underway.
- Currently, the sole supplier of vehicle-mounted sprayers is the UK-based Micron Sprayers. The country in February placed an order for import of 60 such sprayers.

Priyanka Chopra, Anurag Kashyap among ambassadors for virtual TIFF 2020
- Actor Priyanka Chopra and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap are among the 50 celebrated filmmakers and actors invited as the ambassadors of a slimmed down Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year.
- The festival, slated to run from September 10 to September 19, will be opting for digital screenings and virtual red carpets for the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic, making it tailored to fit the moment.
- Chopra and Kashyap will join Oscar winners and celebrated international names including filmmakers Martin Scorsese, Alfonso Cuaron, Taika Waititi, Ava DuVernay, Rian Johnson, Denis Villeneuve, and actors Nicole Kidman, Nadine Labaki, Riz Ahmed, IsabelleHuppert, Zhang Ziyi to help TIFF deliver a strong gala this year, the organisers said in a press statement.
- The 45th edition of the festival plans to screen 50 films during its first five days in physical theatres through socially-distanced screenings.
- Physical screenings will need the approval from the health authorities of the city as it is dependent on province’s reopening framework to ensure that festival venues and workplaces practice, meet, and exceed public health guidelines.
- For the first time in its history, TIFF will launch a digital platform for the festival, hoping to connect with audiences beyond Toronto by hosting digital screenings, as well as numerous talks and special events.

Former England Captain Clare Connor to Become MCC’s First Female President in 233-year History
- Former England captain Clare Connor is set to become the first female president of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in its 233-year-old history.
- Clare is the current England and Wales Cricket Board’s managing director of women’s cricket. The 43-year-old will take up the post on October 1, 2021, pending approval by the club’s members, the MCC confirmed on Wednesday.
- Current MCC President Kumar Sangakkara has been invited to remain in the role for a second twelve-month tenure due to the impact of COVID-19 on the cricketing landscape.
- “We often need to look back to see how far we’ve come. I made my first visit to Lord’s as a starry-eyed, cricket-obsessed 9 year-old girl at a time when women were not welcome in the Long Room. Times have changed.
- Clare made her England debut in 1995 at the age of 19, and took over the captaincy in 2000, leading England at Lord’s against Australia a year later. An all-rounder who bowled left-arm spin, she led England women to their first Ashes triumph in 42 years, overseeing a 1-0 series win in 2005.
